Resisters Tell Their Stories

A sold-out crowd saw “Resistance at Tule Lake,” which was shown on May 22 at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose as part of the San Jose J-Town Filmfest. There was a panel discussion following the documentary with (from left) former Tuleans Hiroshi Shimizu, Hiroshi and Sadako Kashiwagi, and Jimi Yamaichi with filmmaker Konrad Aderer. Hiroshi Kashiwagi was a “no-no” and Yamaichi was a draft resister. The panel was co-hosted by JAMsj, the J-Town Filmfest and the UCLA Asian American Studies Center’s Eji Suyama Project. David Yoo, director of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center and a professor of Asian American studies, shared about the Suyama Project. For more information, visit www.suyamaproject.org.
