Panel on JA Incarceration and Threat to Muslim Americans

“Civil Liberties in a Time of Fear: The Japanese American Incarceration and the Threat to Muslim Americans” will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Japanese American National Museum, 100 N. Central Ave. in Little Tokyo.

The schedule is as follows:

6:15–7:15 p.m.: Refreshments and taiko drumming performance

7:30–9 p.m.: Panel discussion

Hosted by the Harvard Law School Association of Los Angeles, the Japanese American National Museum, and the Japanese American Bar Association, the panel will feature:

• Karen Korematsu, founder of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute and daughter of civil rights hero Fred Korematsu

• Dr. Irum Shiekh, director of the documentary “Hidden Internment: The Art Shibayama Story” and author of “Detained Without Cause: Muslim Americans’ Stories of Detention and Deportation after 9/11”

• Edina Lekovic, public affairs consultant for the Muslim Public Affairs Council and co-founder of New Ground, an interfaith project bringing Muslims and Jews together in the Greater L.A. area

• Warren Olney (moderator) of KCRW, host and executive producer of “To the Point” and “Olney in L.A.”
