JABA Statement on Passing of Harvey Horikawa

The Los Angeles-based Japanese American Bar Association issued the following statement on Oct. 27:

Harvey Horikawa

“It is with great sadness that JABA shares the news of Harvey M. Horikawa’s passing. Harvey was a former JABA board member and pillar of the JA community.

“Harvey M. Horikawa was born in Chicago in 1948 and raised in the Los Angeles area. After graduating from UCLA law school in 1973, he was a founding partner in two law firms where he specialized in civil litigation, trials, and administrative law. Harvey also worked for three years in the Civil Liabilities Section of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, before returning to his private practice.

“As a result of his extensive jury trial experience, he was invited to be a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. While engaged in his law practice, he also served as a commissioner for the California Fair Employment and Housing Commission; and as a board member for the JABA (where his wife, Candice Horikawa, also served).

“Harvey continued to practice in the areas of employment, civil rights, and general litigation up until his death on Oct. 18, 2017. His greatest joy was helping those in need and ensuring that everyone was treated with fairness and compassion under the law. Harvey will always be a part of the JABA family.

“There will be a memorial service for Harvey on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Rolling Hills United Methodist Church in Rolling Hills Estates.

“Please join us in sending our deepest condolences to Harvey’s family and friends.”
