Health, Sports, and Culture Day at JAMsj

Health/Sports Day is held on the anniversary of the opening ceremony of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics (originally held on Oct. 10). With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in sight, the JAMSj Health, Sports and Culture Day brings the celebration of the 2020 games closer to San Jose’s Japantown.

There will be various performances by local young talent followed by relay races (Undokai) for the kids. Pack your obento lunch (drinks will be provided) and enjoy the afternoon. The museum will also be open with docents on hand for tours.

Featuring Lotus Preschool Singers, San Jose Jr. Taiko Performing Ensemble, kendama demonstration, Olympian Chie Swan, judo demonstration, ukulele by 11-year-old Jake Shimada, relay races, Hula Hoop circle race, egg-on-a-spoon relay, monsui relay race, tug of war, pankui and tamaire.

Free with admission to the museum: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors over 65 and students with valid ID; free for JAMsj members and children 12 and under.

To RSVP, go to, email, or call (408) 294-3138.
