It’s July and Camp Musubi is just around the corner. Camp Musubi is a day camp in Little Tokyo where young people have fun learning about Nikkei heritage.

Camp will take place Saturday, July 23, and Sunday, July 24, and is open to incoming 5th-, 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-graders.

Camp includes a combination of group games, workshops, and exploring Little Tokyo and its history. This year’s special field trip is to Manzanar National Historic Site. Participants will also tour the Japanese American National Museum and the Rafu Shimpo offices to learn how to support its current subscription drive.

Camp Musubi’s goal is to build an appreciation in the Japanese American experience. According to Angela, a parent of a past camper, “My daughter gained a better understanding of the struggles our ‘pioneers’ and previous generations of JAs endured. I’ve heard — more than ever before — the words ‘respect’ and ‘dignity’ uttered from her mouth.”

Camp Musubi will take place at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC). Camp registration deadline is July 15 and is $275. JACCC and sibling discounts available. More information and registration forms available at www.campmusubi.com.
