SAN PEDRO — Wakana Kimura’s “Moment” will be back on Sunday, March 10, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Angel Gate Cultural Center, Building H, 3601 S. Gaffey St. in San Pedro.
In 2018, this seminal work was installed in the sacred hall of the Koyasan Buddhist Temple in Little Tokyo. This year, again on Kimura’s birthday, the “Moment” installation returns as a shared experience, deliberately calculating the perception of an approach from common ground to the sacred.
The audience is intentionally moved and shifted without warning from seriousness to the bizarre, which can be traced through an infinite range of subject at the space in-between. This installation is part of Kimura’s ongoing series of works that deal with collaboration within unconventional spaces. Collecting resources from the ancient to the contemporary, Kimura has intermingled her works into a groundbreaking venture.
