George Matsumoto entered his plea to one count of second-degree murder and admitted the special allegation that he personally used a firearm.
Sentencing is set for Dec. 12, when he is expected to receive 19 years to life in state prison.
Deputy District Attorney Kelly Kelley prosecuted the case.
On Jan. 14, 2015, a family member contacted police and asked for a welfare check for Mary Matsumoto, 72, who had not been heard from for several days. When authorities arrived at the couple’s home, they found the victim in a bed and she had been shot three times in the head, the prosecutor said.
The defendant was in the home unresponsive and was arrested.
Matsumoto believed his wife was having an affair, the prosecutor added.
Case NA101099 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Harbor Division.
